Dear OMMS Families,

The school year sure is moving by fast.  The PTSA has been busy keeping up with the fast pace of events in OMMS and the greater educational community.  

First, the PTSA would like to congratulate Mrs Chrobak for winning the Alvin and Louise Myerberg Arts Leadership Recognition Award.  Thank you for your support Mrs Chrobak!!!

Second, please consider taking on a position with the PTSA next year, many of our officers are leaving for the high school and those that are left are term limited for many positions.  We need you to continue to support the school!!  please contact President@ommsptsa.org if you are interested or know someone who might be interested.

Third, since we have had some crazy weather and school closings, I thought I would remind you of the updated calendar.  From HCPSS website:
"To make up for the five inclement weather school closings this school year, 2017-2018, schools will now be in session: Wednesday, April 4; Thursday, April 5; Friday, April 6; Friday, May 18 (dismiss three-hours early); and Friday, June 15 (dismiss three hours early). Additionally, to adjust for the June 15 last student day, Tuesday, June 12 is now a full day for students. An updated calendar can be found on the HCPSS website."

Finally, you might also have heard that the budget process for the school system has been challenging this year.  The school system has found itself in a deficit condition and had to make some painful cuts to programs and change others to try and make up the difference.  Learn about the HCPSS budget process  
I encourage you to get educated about the new budget and let your County Executive and County Council know what YOU think should be a priority.  Learn more about the budget

 April 21* – 7:30 p.m.

Board of Education holds a public hearing on budget changes.

 April 25* – 7:00 p.m.

County Council holds a public hearing on the Board of Education’s Requested Budget.

*Opportunity for public testimony

 Work Session – April 28 – 7:00 p.m.

Board of Education holds a public work session on the Superintendent’s Proposed Operating Budget.

 April 29 – 8:30 a.m.

County Council Budget work session.

 May 12* – 7:30 p.m.

Board of Education public hearing on Operating Budget

*Opportunity for public testimony

 May 18 – 8:30 a.m.

County Council budget work session.

 May 19 – 7:30 p.m.

Board of Education holds a work session on budget changes. (if necessary)

 May 23 – 8:30 a.m.

County Council holds a work session on budget amendments and pending issues.

 May 26 – 10:30 a.m.

County Council approves budget.

 May 31 – 8:00 a.m.

Rescheduled May 26 session. Board of Education holds a work session on the budget, followed by adoption of the budget approved by the County Council.
